The development of information technology will enhance educational platform, a new function will provide better education service, but it will result in too much work to modify and update the old system. Ontology is one of the alternative solutions, because it is an explicit specification of a conceptualization. Furthermore, based on several new technologies, such as ontology engineering, semantic web, and grid system. This research proposed a flexible educational architecture for e-Learning system.
The core of OntoEdu is Educational Ontology. It is divided into five parts: user adaptation, automatic composition, education ontology, service model, and content model. At the meantime, the grid-based design is also proposed, which realized the concept of OntoEdu User Registration and Resources. In this research, a more detailed design is proposed based on Grid System which is includes Metadata and Data Type Definition (DTD).
As a result, an e-Learning services architecture offering grid-based system for students, lecturers, and others to browse and obtain information through web services. Services could include user authentication, course online, materials, quiz, assignment, semantic search, and grade.
